The Book We Picked and Why

The Book We Picked and Why
In my previous posts, I announced our upcoming book club for September 30 where we will discuss Emma Grede’s Start with Yourself: A New Vision for Work & Life.
Today I want to tell you why we picked this book.
Emma Grede did not start with connections or capital. She grew up in East London raised by a single British mom alongside her three younger sisters, dropping out of London College of Fashion after one term because she couldn’t afford it, and started her career at the bottom of the fashion industry. Emma went on to co-found Good American and become a founding partner of SKIMS.
Start with Yourself is not just a business book. It is about the inner work, leadership, and vision behind outer success. One thread has sparked a lot of the conversation online around this book: why women stay quiet about money while the men around them talk about it freely. As Emma puts it, “When we feel like it’s inelegant to talk about money, money has a way of elegantly passing us by.”
That is exactly the kind of conversation we want to have together and why we are hosting a book club.
Here are the details:
- When: Wednesday, September 30, 6:00 to 7:00pm PT
